It’s the last hurrah of summer – and there are all sorts of safe, socially distanced ways to enjoy it in Grand Rapids. Here are a few ideas:
Dine, drink, shop and more in the city’s Social Zones – outdoor spaces that facilitate easier social distancing and promote the benefits of fresh air. Refreshment Areas within social zones allow you to carry approved open containers of alcohol from nearby bars and restaurants. Try a different Social Zone every night of the long weekend!
Friday is a grand night at Riverside Park – come for a food truck dinner or get carryout from your favorite restaurant, then stick around for a game of disc golf or a leisurely stroll along the Grand River.
Enjoy dinner, drinks and live music on the beach at The Score Restaurant & Sports Bar – it’s open every day of the weekend.
A longer weekend means more time to work on becoming a Brewsader® – visit eight breweries on the Beer City Ale Trail to get a free t-shirt.
Time is running out to see Bodies Revealed, the amazing Grand Rapids Public Museum exhibit that runs through September 27. Also at GRPM – Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World looks at the way pathogens (including COVID-19) spread to people from wildlife and livestock.
George Segal: Body Language at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park presents the famed artist’s sculptures side-by-side with a collection of his prints. View the exhibit and then stroll the beautiful outdoor gardens.
Saturday’s Summer in the City Concert at Studio Park Piazza is part of The Bridge GR – a series of outdoor events happening around town through October 3. After the concert, walk a few blocks to see special nighttime lighting on downtown’s iconic Blue Bridge – the Bridge will be lit up every night in September.

Labor Day is a great day to get a run in – and participate in the Amway River Bank Run and Run Thru the Rapids. Both events are virtual this year, so you can register and upload your times for 5K, 10K and 25K runs.
